Hop Across is a grid-based arcade game about getting a small frog from the bottom bank to the lily pads at the top. A busy highway blocks the first half of the trip, and a river of drifting logs blocks the rest. Each hop moves exactly one square, and a timer pushes you to keep going. The game comes from Frank Force’s open-source LittleJS Arcade, and all of its art is drawn in code.
How to Play Hop Across
Your frog starts on the bottom bank. Cross the road without touching a vehicle, rest on the grass strip, then jump onto the logs. You cannot swim, so any hop into open water costs a life. A log also carries you sideways, and riding it off the edge of the screen counts as a loss.
The top row has five lily pads that sway from side to side. Land on an empty one to bring the frog home, and a fresh frog appears at the start. Fill all five pads to clear the level. The next level adds lanes, mixes up lane directions and makes everything move faster, while the crossing timer shrinks from 22 seconds toward a floor of 8.
You earn 10 points for each new row you reach, 50 for every frog brought home, plus 10 for each second left on the timer. Clearing a level adds 1,000. The lives counter starts at 3, and the game ends when you lose a frog while it reads 0.

Tips and Strategies
- Study the road before your first hop. The timer stays full until the frog moves, so use that calm moment to read the traffic.
- Watch the lane, not the car. Every vehicle in a lane shares one speed and spacing, so the gaps repeat in a steady rhythm.
- Use the middle grass. No car or log can reach you on that strip, so it is a safe spot to line up your river crossing.
- Hop sideways on logs. Step along a log to stay clear of the screen edge and to line up with a pad.
- Pick your pad early. A filled pad is as deadly as water, so aim for an empty one while you are still on the top log.
Features
- Rising difficulty: lane counts, traffic density and speed all climb as the levels go up.
- Saved records: your high score and best level are kept in your browser.
- Five vehicle types: sedans, wagons, sports cars, trucks and buses fill the road with mixed lengths.
- Many ways to play: keyboard, mouse clicks, a touch direction pad or a game controller.
