Radius Raid is a top-down space shooter set in an arena twice the size of your screen. You fly a small ship with the keyboard and point your gun with the mouse, so moving and shooting are two separate jobs. Enemies drift in from every side, and each level adds a new kind with its own way of hunting you. Jack Rugile built it for js13kGames 2013, drawing every shape and sound in code.
How to Play Radius Raid
Press PLAY to start. Your ship always faces the mouse pointer, and holding the left button fires a stream of shots that way.
There are no enemy bullets. You lose health only while an enemy is touching your ship, and the green Health bar drains the longer the contact lasts. When it runs out, the round ends and a summary shows your score, level, kills, bullets fired, power-ups and time.
Every kill adds points. Simple enemies are worth 5, and tougher types are worth up to 65. The Progress bar fills as you score kills, and a full bar moves you up a level. Each new level brings in another enemy type, such as splitters that burst into four smaller foes, faint stealth ships that are hard to see, and spawners that release small chasers. After the last new type arrives, the levels keep coming and enemies take more hits to destroy.

Tips and Strategies
- Keep moving. The ship carries momentum and slows gently when you let go, so short taps let you slide past a chaser instead of stopping on top of it.
- Watch the mini-map. Enemies that are off screen still show up as dots, so turn your aim toward a crowd before it arrives.
- Shoot splitters from far away. A splitter breaks into four smaller enemies when it dies, so give yourself room to clean up the pieces.
- Take out spawners first. They keep releasing fast chasers until they are destroyed.
- Save health packs for when you need them. Health packs only drop while your health is below about 90 percent, so other power-ups are more common when you are healthy.
- Try autofire on long runs. With F on, you only have to steer and aim.
Features
- 13 enemy types: each level adds one, from simple drifters to tough towers and enemy spawners.
- Five timed power-ups: Health Pack, Slow Enemies, Fast Shot, Triple Shot and Pierce Shot, with timers shown at the bottom of the screen.
- Saved stats: best score, best level, rounds played, kills, bullets, power-ups and total time stay in your browser.
- Layered backdrop: several star layers shift at different speeds as the camera follows your ship.
