Why we built Strongdog XP
Most free game websites are built around ads first and games second. Pages are crowded, games load from other companies' servers, and many titles are copies of commercial games uploaded without permission. We wanted the opposite: a calm, fast site where every game is legal to share, works the moment you press Play, and comes with an honest description written by someone who actually played it.
Strongdog XP is the result. It is a small library, chosen with care, rather than a giant dump of links. Every game has its own page with instructions, a controls table, strategy tips, a short FAQ and full credits for the people who made it.
Our goal
We want a games site you can trust. That means no surprise downloads, no pop-up windows, no fake "play now" buttons and no games copied from other companies. Every game on this site is open source, so its code is public and its authors chose to let others share it. Our job is to find those games, check them carefully, and present them well.
How we pick games
Before a game is added, it has to pass a written checklist. We turn down far more games than we accept.
- License check. The code must use a recognized open-source license, such as MIT, BSD, Apache, MPL or GPL. The art, sound, music and fonts must also be covered by an open license. If any part is unclear, or if the terms forbid commercial use or changes, we leave the game out.
- Original look. We skip games that copy characters, logos, level layouts or names from commercial games. When a game recreates a classic idea, we give it a plain, descriptive name and make sure its art is its own.
- Complete and fun. A game has to be finished enough to enjoy. Tech demos, empty prototypes and games that are too thin to describe honestly do not make the cut.
- Safe for a general audience. No chat, no accounts, no purchases and no realistic violence.
How we prepare and test each game
Once a game is accepted, we copy only the files it needs onto our own server. We remove analytics, outside ads and links that would pull players away, and we store any helper libraries locally so nothing loads from another website. The author's credits and license files always stay in place, and every change we make is written down in a notes file that ships with the game. For copyleft licenses such as GPL and MPL, we also publish the matching source code.
Then we test. An automated browser opens every game page, presses Play and watches for errors, missing files and requests to other domains. We play each game ourselves as well, which is how we learn the rules, controls and quirks that end up in its guide. Each page shows a "Tested and updated" date so you can see when it was last checked.
How we write our game guides
We read the game's code and play it before writing a word. The scoring rules, level counts, controls and features on each page come from what we saw, not from guesses or copied store text. We do not add star ratings, play counts or reviews, because we have no honest way to measure them. If you spot a mistake in a guide, tell us and we will fix it.
What "unblocked" means here
Every game file lives on Strongdog XP, and the games do not load code, ads or trackers from outside game servers. That is why filters aimed at large game portals or ad networks do not stop them on their own. We cannot promise that every school or office network allows this site, though. If yours blocks it, please respect that and follow the rules where you are.
Accessibility and devices
The site works with a keyboard, a mouse or a touchscreen, and the pages are built with clear headings, strong contrast and labels for screen readers. Each game page tells you whether a game works on phones, needs a keyboard or is best on a desktop. Games run in any modern browser, including on Chromebooks, because nothing has to be installed.
Credit where it is due
These games exist because their authors shared them. Each game page lists the author, a link to the source code and the licenses for code and assets. You can see all of them in one place on the game credits page. Thank you to every developer, artist and musician whose work makes this site possible.
